The Shortlist of six is derived from 18 or less submissions chosen independently by Judge Cathleen With and Jury Members Hannah Mcready and Fauzia Rafique. Submissions chosen by more than one juror are highlighted. Some jurors were compelled to present more than six submissions, those are printed in brackets at the end of the Longlist.

The judges and jury members viewed the anonymous submissions from August 20 to October 20, and they each presented their six best selections producing the long and then the short lists. The First, Second and Third Place Winners and three Honorable Mentions will be announced on November 3rd, and the awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 26 in Surrey, British Columbia. Each award promises $1000 for the First Place Winner.
Surrey Muse Arts Society is proud to have received over 300 submissions from 66 different cities in Canada, and it welcomes all poets, writers, artists and musicians who made submissions to the 2022 Surrey Muse Art & Literature Awards. For Joy Kogawa Award for Fiction, we are grateful to Judge Cathleen With and Jury Members Hannah McReady and Fauzia Rafique for their valuable contributions to this year’s fiction contest. As well, this is the first time they would be seeing the names of writers they chose.
